While other college football teams start off the season with cupcake match-ups to ease their way into things (um, see: Saturday blurb), two of the better teams in the country look for a statement win in the Advocare Classic. Oregon and Auburn, ranked 11th and 16th in the nation, respectively, meet up at AT&T Stadium this Saturday for a game that the college football world will be watching on their TVs.
The whole sport is looking up at Clemson and Alabama, but Auburn does have a closer view. With a load of promising talent on both sides of the ball, the Tigers will need freshman quarterback Bo Nix (who was recently announced as having won the starting job) to hit his stride quickly. A win here, and the rest of the schedule starts to look favorable for the team. On the other hand, Oregon has a well-seasoned squad, with QB Justin Herbert returning to school rather than declaring for the NFL draft. Their schedule is brutal after the opening game, but a powerful offense might be able to see the Ducks through it anyway. There will be more marquee match-ups in the coming college football season, but this game will kick things off in style.
The Advocare Classic kicks off at 6:30pm Sat at AT&T Stadium, 1 Legends Way, Arlington. Tickets are $50-330. Call 800-732-2717.
