Two food and drink events grab the spotlight this week. The first one is on Thursday, when Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival holds its annual warm-up event, Sipping Series: Reserve Wine Tasting. Three vineyards from the heart of California’s Napa Valley (Duckhorn Vineyards, Hourglass Vineyards, and Nickel & Nickel Winery) are bringing their wares to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to pair with Café Modern’s appetizers. Hope you like those big reds that they grow in Napa, though Nickel & Nickel does offer a chardonnay as well.

Then comes our very own Celebrity Chef Chili Cook-Off. The fourth annual event returns to the Tin Panther, with the entire street in front closed off to allow our cooks room to work on their interpretation of that venerable Texas dish that accommodates so many different ingredients. As always, proceeds benefit Cook Children’s Health Foundation, so you’ll be helping children as well as passing judgment on who makes the best bowl of Texas red. (Will someone be adventurous enough to go green?) Honestly, we think that beer pairs better with chili than wine, but who are we to stop you from hitting both?

The Sipping Series: Reserve Wine Tasting is at 6pm Thu at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St, FW. Tickets are $75.
