Eight lives left, little fellow.

A zoo attendant found this tiny kitten inside a Komodo dragon exhibit on Saturday at the Fort Worth Zoo. The 1-month old feline is black with a few brown spots. The Humane Society of North Texas posted a picture of the kitten, now named Komodo, on its Facebook page, and more than 1,300 people have liked the post.

Some commenters are speculating that someone placed the kitten inside the giant lizard’s den.

“Does no one else care how the hell she ended up in the exhibit?” a woman named Courtney wrote. “Someone put her on there to be killed. Somehow that isn’t a story. Lol. Apparently at this zoo you can drop kittens into exhibits and no one cares. No big deal.”

The dragon’s enclosure looks as if it would be difficult if not impossible for a kitten to get inside on its own.

“It’s  a mystery as to how that kitten got in there,” said Humane Society spokesman Philip Gonzalez.

Comments accusing someone of trying to put the kitten in the cage (presumable as food for the Komodo dragon) “would be jumping to conclusions,” Gonzalez said.

Feral cats are found in large numbers in the Forest Park area near the zoo, and zoo employees have called the Humane Society to rescue kittens on zoo property in the past. A zookeeper rescued this latest stray after the Komodo dragon had turned its scaly back.

“The enclosure has an inside and outside,” Gonzalez said. “When the dragon went inside, the keeper rescued the kitten.”

Too young for adoption, Komodo is being cared for by a foster owner until it tops 2 pounds.

The kitten is “maybe 10 or 12 ounces now,” Gonzalez said.

After getting a bit older and fatter, Komodo goes up for adoption, although the foster caretaker gets first dibs on the lucky cat.
