Complaints About Red Dots
The Fort Worth Fire Department’s twitter feed on July 4 illustrated the polar opposite approaches to Independence Day. The fire department showed red dots on a map indicating where complaints about fireworks had been reported. The comments section sounds like a discussion at a bar: Some folks think popping fireworks inside the city limits is dangerous and ignorant. Others think its patriotic and fun, and suggest complainers should get the sticks out of their sphincters.
Another Musician Loses Gear To Thieves
Fort Worth’s Larry Dillon did just about everything a fellow can do to keep his musical gear from being stolen. Thieves got it anyway — $25,000 worth. Now Dillon’s singing the blues. Seems like the number of gear thefts has increased in recent years, although that’s probably due to social media making it easier to tell the masses.
Head West, Dallas Police Officers
Seems Fort Worth is a desirable place for a big city police officer these days. Dallas cops keeping crossing the Tarrant County line seeking higher paychecks. The Dallas Morning News says 14 of 20 officers that Fort Worth has hired in lateral transfers this year have come from Dallas. The Dallas officers can make about $10,000 more a year in Fort Worth, you know, the city where police are always complaining about being underpaid.
Fort Worth History Through Art
Local art collector and dealer Larry Kleinschmidt has gathered an impressive collection of early Texas art over the years, most of it from the 1920s through the 1970s. Much of it exemplifies the modern sensitivities that local artists incorporated into their paintings long before other Texas artists. Some of Kleinschmidt’s best pieces are being displayed this month at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy St. The exhibit is free and runs through July 30.
Donald Trump Too Outlandish For GOP?
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump keeps digging himself deeper, this time posting a tweet that accused fellow candidate Jeb Bush of liking “Mexican Illegals” because of his Hispanic wife. This follows Trumps’ comments about Mexicans being criminals and rapists. The punchline comes at the bottom of the story when Bush is quoted saying that Trump’s views are “way out of the mainstream of what most Republicans think.” The next sentence reads, “Trump is currently polling No. 2 among Republicans in New Hampshire.”
