Tonight’s a good one for listening to some fresh music downtown (before the cold front pushes through).
Stumbling onto Once on cable television several years ago was momentous for me. I’d never heard of any of the actors, but the movie was beautifully written and acted. The incredible musical performances by an Irish street singer and a classically trained pianist are what blew my mind.
Since then, Once has been turned into a Tony-award winning stage play, which is making its way to Bass Hall in February.
To honor this occasion, Performing Arts Fort Worth has organized “ONCE Around the Square,” a free event to feature six local singers performing from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight.
Parking is free downtown after 6 p.m. so you don’t have to worry about that either.
From 6 to 7:30 p.m. see and hear Brandin Lea at Sundance Square Plaze, Deanna Valone at Del Friscoe’s Grille, and Katie Robertson at Scat Jazz Lounge.
From 7:30-9 p.m. enjoy Jacob Furr at Silver Leaf Cigar Lounge, Taylor Craig Mills at Taco Diner, and Stephen Beatty at Flying Saucer.
