1.) Two of the nicest people in town, Nicole Ofeno and Raef Payne, will be following their creative dreams to New York City soon, and for their bon voyage party –– tonight at Shipping & Receiving (201 S. Calhoun St., 817-343-6393) –– some of the most progressive acts in North Texas, including recent Columbia Records signee Leon Bridges, War Party, Ronnie Heart, and, on of my all-time faves, Son of Stan, are performing.
Admission is $25-30. Ten-percent of proceeds will be donated to Operation Kindness, a no-kill animal shelter in Carrollton.
2.) Things are going to get dark at The Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge (1311 Lipscomb St., 817-926-0986) on Friday, when Pinkish Black, Nervous Curtains, and Wire Nest take the stage.
Admission is $6-9.
3.) Quaker City Night Hawks, Mothership, and The Virgin Wolves will ring in the New Year at Three Links (2704 Elm St.).
Admission is $10-15.
4.) Lola’s Saloon (2736 W. 6th St., 817-877-0666) and the nearby Grotto (517 University Dr., 817-882-9331) will join forces tonight. At Lola’s, Beaumont’s proggy Purple will be onstage for the final countdown, while Fort Worth psych-rockers Picnic Lightning will welcome 2015 at The Grotto. Animal Spirit, Panic Volcanic, and Homebrew will be at Lola’s and Morningside Drive, Black Market Garden, Mountain Kid at The Grotto.
Admission is $10 and includes free shuttle service.
5.) Hellyeah and Drowning Pool play tonight at South Side Ballroom (1135 S. Lamar St., 800-745-3000).
