TCU’s 2008 holiday revue We Need a Little Christmas was so popular that the school’s theater department is bringing it back this year for a whole new class of students to see, featuring about 40 Christmas songs backed by a jazz combo plus some lesser- known songs. It’s not every week that a musician from the New York Philharmonic comes to Fort Worth to play, but that’s what’s going down at All Saints Episcopal Church when the orchestra’s organist, Kent Tritle, pays a visit. Well, you knew this would happen: Elf: The Musical comes to Bass Hall this week. Cop, pro wrestler, Hollywood actor, soldier, sailor, artist, railroad engineer, and many other things, Leonard J. Beal, a.k.a. Big Bear, already has a city in California named after him (thus inspiring the fake-news headline “Big Bear Man Eaten by Big Bear”). Now the Texarkana-born Cherokee has the Big Bear Native American Museum. Displaying his collection of historical artifacts, the museum has just opened at 101 Chisholm Tr, Cleburne. Admission is $5. Johannes Brahms started out composing piano music because he lacked the confidence as a young man to write for orchestra. His symphony-length Serenade No. 1 in D major is one of his earliest efforts to take on an orchestral work, and it’s a rustic piece that shows the composer’s voice already in full bloom. The UNT Concert Orchestra plays the serenade tonight along with Haydn’s Cello Concerto at 8pm at Winspear Hall, 2100 I-35, Denton. Tickets are $10-15. Call 940-369-7802.

The NCHA World Cham-pionship Futurity starts up once again at Will Rogers Memorial Center this week, featuring the best cutting horses and their riders. The competitions on the weekends will cost you $10 per ticket, but you can get in for free during the week to see these horsemen and horsewomen doing what they do.
