For its 16th annual film festival, Q Cinema is bringing in a special guest with an outsize reputation. The Texas playwright, filmmaker, and actor will be on hand to screen Del Shores: Naked. Sordid. Reality, a filmed one-man show in which Shores discusses his childhood, his recent divorce, and homophobic public figures, as well as acting out scenes from his favorite reality TV shows. Shores himself will also unveil some new material and perhaps give us tidbits on the sequel to Sordid Lives that he’s planning to deliver next year.
Elsewhere, the festival gives us some serious documentaries like Linda Bloodworth-Thomason’s Bridegroom, which chronicles the aftermath of a hate crime, and Matt Livardy’s Queens & Cowboys, which spends a year following the gay, lesbian, and transgender competitors on the International Gay Rodeo Association circuit. However, there’s also the Canadian comedy My Guys, about a straight waitress who feels threatened when another woman seems to be angling to take over her cadre of gay male friends. And Q Cinema takes a rare foray into slasher flicks with Jane Clark’s Crazy Bitches, in which seven women and one man find themselves being stalked while vacationing at a cabin in the woods.
