WILLIE NELSON BETTER FIND HIS OLD HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL HELMET IF HE PLANS TO POKE HIS HEAD IN THE TEXAS GUBERNATORIAL RACE.

Wendy Davis is calling in the big guns in her attempt to become the next governor of Texas.

The former Fort Worth city councilwoman and state senator is combining two Texas legends — barbecue and Willie Nelson — to boost her campaign contributions.

Davis sent out an email promoting a “Backyard BBQ” on April 27 in Houston, which includes a performance by Nelson.

“We’ll have some amazing Texas BBQ. We’ll be talking about the future of our great state. And at the end of the night, we’ll have a special performance by Willie,” she said.

People who contribute $5 to her campaign today will be automatically entered into the “Backyard BBQ Sweepstakes.”

“If you get to come to our BBQ, we’ll have a chance to talk,” Davis wrote in the email. “We’ll get a photo together. And you’ll get to hear Willie Nelson perform a private concert.”

Nelson has endorsed underdog politicians in the past, including longshot presidential candidate Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a Democrat.

Davis is running against the Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican, to replace outgoing Gov. Rick Perry.

  1. i sincerely hope my speculation that greg and rick have, by their own devices, rendered themselves unelectable and the bbq is really a bad ass victory celebration in advance.

    • Oh please Wendy Davis winning in Texas is like saying that Obamacare is “affordable” it will never happen, let me rephrase that, yes eventually democrats will win in Texas but not this year, and let me get into further depth in what I am trying to explain, Texas is having a population boom due to people from other states moving here, most of these people who keep moving here are from liberals states, they claim that their states are “taxing them to death” but when they move here they still support the same party which caused their home state to take most of their valuable income. So whenever Texas goes blue, it will not be because it is the will of the majority of Texans, it will be the will of those who keep moving here trying to change our politics, but whenever democrat do get elected. do not complain of high taxes, or a higher cost of living (just in case democrats do win, and do the exact thing that I just mentioned. in advanced I will say: I told you so)

        • @None of your business That’s okay because people understand since they already know that Texas and we Texansn ain’t too big into all that edumacation stuff no way no how. Maybe these immigrants from blue states can volunteer in local schools and help Texas education move past Arkansas and Mississippi in national rankings. If not anything, the tax increases in the future would go toward improving our educational system instead of giving huge tax breaks and other taxpayer-funded inducements to get companies to move here…which is how most of these economic immigrants ended up here.
