The other shoe finally dropped in the Biogenesis scandal that has hung over the head of Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz. Moments ago, Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted that Cruz has accepted his immediate suspension of 50 games. He will be eligible to return should the Rangers make the playoffs. However with Cruz’s bat out of the lineup, it’s tough to see how the Rangers will score enough to get to the postseason.

Cruz was on a trajectory to set career highs in homeruns and RBIs. His productivity will be difficult to replace at this point in the season, now that the non-waiver trade deadline has passed.

The Rangers have yet to comment on his suspension.

Cruz is a cheater, but he cheated for the team I like. Rangers fans can at least take comfort that A-Rod is the one facing the most public humiliation.
