A section of town that is often ignored by retailers and developers is gearing up for a bonanza of a grand opening.

“Walmart is opening in southeast Fort Worth on Friday and I would like to see you all there,” Fort Worth City Councilwoman Kelly Allen Gray said at yesterday’s council meeting.

Walmart opens its doors Friday morning at 2900 Renaissance Square near U.S. 287 and Berry Street.

The store is expected to provide several hundred jobs in the predominantly African-American neighborhood, and serve as a convenient alternative to nearby residents who’ve traditionally had few options when shopping for groceries, clothes, and other necessities.
