This Friday (May 4) at 8:30pm, Artes de la Rosa (the resident performing and visual arts organization of the Rose Marine Theatre) offers a free outdoor screening of the award-winning 2007 drama La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon). The movie concerns the efforts of a mother to reunite with her nine-year-old son after she comes to America illegally to work and earn money for his support. It’s safe to say: Bring plenty of hankies.
The public is invited to the May 4 showing in Mercado Plaza at the south end of the Rose Marine; there are about fifty lawn spots available and you can set up grills if you want. But Artes de la Rosa would especially like to make the screening a networking opportunity for members of the local filmmaking and theater community, so everybody come out and hobnob.
This event is neatly timed. The director of “Under the Same Moon” is Patricia Riggen, who has a new film coming out called “Girl in Progress” on May 11. I’ve already seen “Girl in Progress,” but you’ll have to wait until next week to find out what I think of it.
