On balance, Texas probably doesn’t have more whack jobs and nut cases than other large states, but for some reason ours get more national attention, perhaps because they speak with a twang. On last night’s The Colbert Report, former Texas State Board of Education chairman Don McLeroy was proudly representing our state in an interview about the new documentary feature The Revisionaries, which concerns the epic battles fought over history and creationism in public school textbooks. “We’ve got to stand up to the experts!” McLeroy opined about those pesky fact-gathering historians and scientists. Colbert took him apart, without excessive cruelty. (And by the way, lest this devolve into a simplistic debate that pits noble science against ignorant religion, you should remember – Stephen Colbert is a devout practicing Roman Catholic).
“Texas probably doesn’t have more whack jobs and nut cases than other large states…”
Wanna bet?
It’s possible to be a Christian, a Catholic, an Agnostic, or anything else and not be a moron.
@Rockelle – It may be *possible*, but it’s technically illegal in Texas.
