Even though Burning Hotels and Calhoun are performing on the first night of the annual music festival and conference South-By-Southwest, Tue, Mar 13, both Fort Worth indie-rock bands will be staying (partying?) in Austin through the week, playing assorted non-sanctioned showcases.

The coolest-seeming non-sanctioned show is set for Fri-Sat, Mar 16-17, at Doc’s Motorworks (1123 S Congress Av). As part of a showcase by the brand new North Texas-wide Fort Worth-based production company and booking agency Blackbox, Calhoun will be joined by Dallas’ rowdy Ishi and Fort Worth/Los Angeles space wizards EPIC RUINS, among several other bands –– the full, official lineup will be announced soon. The show is free.

(I’m guessing that Calhoun and ER will perform on Saturday –– on Friday, Calhoun is scheduled to play the Dallas Museum of Art and ER is set to play at 7pm at Shiner’s Saloon [422 Congress] as part of The Future of Music showcase.)

The Hotels have also lined up a neat-sounding non-sanctioned gig, this one on Thu, Mar 15, at Dirty Dog Bar (505 E 6th St) as part of the Second Annual Matchbox Showcase. The show is free with online RSVP.

The day before, Burning Hotels will be performing at Cedar Street Courtyard (208 W 4th St) as part of a showcase by ArtistBooking512 and production company Lucy the Poodle. The show is free.
