The Spiral Sound bassist Patrick Higgins is one of the nicest guys not just in the local music scene but in town. Hopefully, all of that good karma that he’s been exuding for years will come back to him tenfold –– his and wife Melanie’s four-year-old daughter Maddie was recently diagnosed with Grade IV astrocytoma (a.k.a. glioblastoma multiforme or GBM), an aggressive malignant brain tumor, and has been undergoing intense treatment. Financial assistance is needed to “support her treatment and assist her family in waging this life-saving battle,” according to Maddie’s Facebook page.
To help raise funds, friends of Maddie are putting on several events, including a bake sale and auction on Saturday, Jan 14, from 11am to 3pm at 7th Haven (2700 W 7th St, 817-744-8550), and the Fight for Maddie Benefit Show on Saturday, Jan 21, from 2pm to 2am at Caves Lounge (900 W Division St, Arlington, 817-460-5510), featuring performances by several Arlington heavy hitters –– the metallic House Harkonnen, the C&W-loving Convoy & The Cattlemen, and the melodic-punk-rocking Plagues –– plus Vinegar & Sugar, The Charismatics, and Denton/Fort Worth’s Deep Snapper. Donation is $5 per person at the door; $10 for food. The 21-and-up show will also feature a raffle and auction.
