This week’s “Screen” page features an interview with writer-director and Fort Worth native Andew Disney, whose first feature Searching For Sonny had a hometown debut at last weekend’s Lone Star International Film Festival. Disney convinced a handful of his favorite TV actors – including Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars), Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), and Masi Oka (Heroes) – to come down to the Fort and star in his indie caper.
Disney also snagged fellow NYU grads and comic actors Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher as supporting players in Sonny. McElhaney and Kocher write and perform as the internet sketch comedy duo Britanick, whose YouTube channel has drawn rave reviews from critics and celebs. Their short A Trailer For Every Oscar-Winning Movie Ever deservedly got a lot of buzz last year. It’s wickedly smart and hilarious.
