Doc’s Records & Vintage, one of the only independently owned record stores in North Texas, will be relocating from its current Montgomery Street location to 9522 Camp Bowie West. Part of the reason for the move is that Doc’s lease on Montgomery has expired. Plus, said Jenkins Boyd, who co-owns Doc’s with his father, Jerry Boyd, “We need more space. We have plenty of records that we can’t even put out now.”

The new lease is for three years with a two-year extension.

Doc’s occupied the Montgomery building for nearly three years and will close up shop there “probably next weekend,” Jenkins said. The Camp Bowie West store should be open by the first week in December. Business hours will be the same: 12-7pm Sun, 11am-7pm Mon-Sat.

The new building, a free-standing structure, is at 4,500 square feet about 1,500 square feet larger than the Montgomery building and will afford customers about twice as much parking, probably as much for nearly two dozen vehicles. The store sits by a jeweler’s and a place that sells light fixtures. The nearest large landmark is a car dealership.

“I don’t think our daily traffic will be as good, but there’s not a whole lot of record stores anymore, so people come to see us,” Jenkins said. “I’m not terribly concerned.” He also noted that the drive from Montgomery Street to Camp Bowie West is only about seven minutes along nearby I-30.

Jenkins hopes to mitigate any foot-traffic concerns by offering specials. A stage also is being built inside –– he hopes to have performers at a higher frequency than he did on Montgomery. The Camp Bowie West location also has a back patio that could be used for events, even though there’s a neighborhood nearby.

“Hopefully, we’ll be a record store in Fort Worth for a long time,” Jenkins said. “Hopefully, we’ll keep it going.”
