I haven’t seen writer-director Paul Gordon’s wry little indie comedy The Happy Poet (2010), but the reviews make it sound marvelous. Gordon stars as an idealistic, liberal-minded, vegetarian artist type who becomes a small business owner – he gets a loan to buy and operate an organic food cart in an Austin park – and discovers that capitalism at all levels is a bit of a shark tank. Lone Star Film Society and the Texas Independent Film Network screen The Happy Poet tonight (Thursday) at 7pm at The Modern. Producer and co-star Jonny Mars will be in attendance. Tix are $7.
