We Americans tend to have the attention span of gnats, so Big News Stories too often come and go without leaving much of an impression. The Gulf Restoration Network is an organization of concerned citizens striving to keep people aware that the historic April 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico continues to have real ecological, economic, and health consequences.
This Sunday (Aug 21) at 7pm, 1919 Hemphill will host an event with a GRN representative that includes a screening of the documentary Defend The Gulf followed by a Q & A. Viewers will be encouraged to sign a petition urging Congress to pass legislation to support Gulf communities and environmental efforts. And – this being 1919 Hemphill – vegan popcorn will be served! Suggested donation is $3.
I’ve found gnats to be quite attentive and focused.
