U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Justin Minyard, a Fort Worth native, is among the 200 wounded service members set to compete in the second annual Warrior Games later this month in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Soldiers go head to head in events such as shooting, swimming, archery, track and field, cycling, and wheelchair basketball. Event organizers say the Warrior Games give injured soldiers the chance to prove to others, and to themselves, that they can do whatever they put their minds to.
Minyard has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, and he suffers from degenerative disc disease, a back condition that makes it difficult for him to walk. Minyard hurt his back initially during military duties but chose to deploy to the Middle East multiple times.
Biking has been a big part of his recovery process, both mentally and physically. This will be Minyard’s first time to compete in the 20K bike race.
Good luck, Justin. Blotch and Fort Worth are rooting the hometown kid!
I just read this report by Dr.Ebby who explains that those complaining about lower back pain are referring to the lumbar spine and sacrum pain.
