As North Texas’ massive fire approached Fort Worth on Tuesday, city officials led by Mayor Mike Moncrief — or “Mr. Morale Responsibility” as we adoringly refer to him now — boldly decided to throw a thimble full of water on the flames.
Kudos to Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Bud Kennedy for calling him out yesterday in his column “Fort Worth Fiddled While Neighboring Counties Burned.”
Maybe you’d like to do something to support emergency workers battling the fires?
Tarrant county Emergency Coordinator Melisa Patterson suggests making a monetary donation to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
“These organizations are feeding and sheltering the thousands of heroic men and women who are working day and night to protect lives and property,” she said.
It’s best not to donate food, water bottles, sports drinks and the like. The county doesn’t have an established method of collecting and delivering them to the firefighters, she said.
