Former Fort Worth Weekly intern and freelance writer Marjorie Owens has been running an ultra-hip, ultra-sleek blog, Clumsy&Shy, specializing in avant-garde pop/rock and associated with Pour le Corps, a newish record label that recently released Iced Age by eyes, wings, and many other things, the Dallas duo of Colin Arnold and former Fort Worthian Sean French (who’s also in Pour le Corps’ only other band, Water Falls, a duo with John Barker). (Another degree of separation from the 817: ewamot is also on Indian Casino Records, a Seattle label founded and run by a Haltom City expat.)

Anyway, along with Redefine Magazine, Clumsy&Shy is co-sponsoring a free, indoor-outdoor BYOB event in Austin during SXSW. From noon ’til 11 p.m. on Fri., Mar. 18, at House of Commons (2610 Rio Grande St.), GARAGE_PSYCH_DANCE will gather more than two-dozen bands representing the titular three genres, including Starfucker, Turbo Fruits, Casiokids, Class Actress, Prince Rama, BRAHMS, The Night Beats, Woodsman, Moon Duo, and, of course, ewamot, among many others. No need to RSVP, but if capacity is reached, you will be turned away.

More ewamot: Iced Age is available only on cassette tape or MP3-FLAC download with tape purchase for $5 plus shipping costs via Pour le Corps’ website. The label will soon release Water Falls’ debut, Sleep Experts (on tape), the ewamot 12-inch Napalm Beach, and a split collaboration between ewamot and the electronic L.A. duo Sneaky Snake. ewamot also has recently released Bad Powder, an EP consisting of “Bad Powder,” from Napalm Beach, and “Alien” and “Enchantment Under the Sea,” both from a forthcoming cassette tape compilation, Enchantment Under the Sea, from the newish tape-loving L.A. label Complicated Dance Steps. You can download all three songs for free here, but donations are encouraged.
