I’ve been meaning to see another Cirque du Soleil show for years now. But why bother going myself when I can just ask a Weekly person to go and report back to me?

Below is an account of Cirque’s new production, OVO, running inside a tent outside of Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco through Sat., Feb. 26, from new Weekleteer sales rep McKenzie Zieser.

“The acrobatic performance art troupe, Cirque du Soleil has been putting on must-see extravaganzas across the globe for over a decade now, but the Canadian company might have finally outdone itself with its latest touring production. OVO transcends previous Cirque shows I’ve seen in a few notable ways.

“Set against an intimate, magical backdrop of leaves and flowers,” she continues, “OVO follows the discovery of a mysterious egg –– ‘ovo’ translates as ‘egg’ in Portuguese –– amid a world of insects, who become desperate to discern the object’s meaning. Throughout the hubbub, life-sized butterflies, spiders, fleas, cockroaches, beetles, and other insects –– all performed by 53 Cirque artists –– play, work, fly, dance, and, yes, fall in love. Taking in all of the action, you may have to remind yourself that you’re actually watching people in costumes and not otherworldly creatures. The story, about the wonder of discovery is touching, especially for kids, to whom the importance of curiosity can never be stressed enough.

“There were about a dozen scenes,” Zieser continues, “each one markedly different, which fomented drama nicely enough and kept things interesting and fresh. OVO is well worth the price of admission. However, be prepared to cash out $15 to $20 for parking.”
