Texas Monthly‘s current issue lists the best new restaurants in the state, and Fort Worth’s Brownstone made the Top 10.

I don’t watch Top Chef but the Monthly‘ article describes how a chef who appeared on that reality cooking show is now working wonders in the kitchen at Brownstone, 840 Currie St., (817-332-1555) in the West 7th entertainment district.

Restaurant manager Starla Perry credits chef Casey Thompson for the restaurant’s recognition. Thompson’s likable personality made her a popular contestant on Top Chef, and once she took over the kitchen at Brownstone she infused the Southern-inspired menu with organic meat and veggies gleaned from local ranches and farms.

“Whenever you are using better products, of course, it’s going to taste better,” Perry said.  “Having a chef whose name is recognizable makes a difference. That may bring people in but once they get in the restaurant the food speaks for itself.”

Texas Monthly says Thompson has “got what it takes.”

Our own food critic Laurie Barker James gave the restaurant favorable marks last summer.
