Texas singer songwriter Willie Nelson could face felony charges and up to two years in prison after a weekend marijuana arrest.
The bust didn’t sap Willie of his humor.
“He said he feels great; he lost six ounces,” Willie’s longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael told Rolling Stone.
His arrest prompted the Abbott native to start a new political party — the Teapot Party.
Willie’s Teapot Party Facebook page has already got more than 8,000 “likes” from people.
One person who likes the page is comedian Tommy Chong, who commented: “If Willie gets behind something you know it’s going to be big and in your face. Any pot party is a wonderful idea.”
The page declares: “Willie Nelson wants American marijuana smokers to join together and form the Teapot Party. Our motto: We lean a little bit to the left.”
The party’s mission statement: “Tax it, regulate it and legalize it.”
I received an email this morning from a local guy who wanted to rant a little about Willie’s arrest:
“I don’t even have a dog in this fight — I stopped smoking pot years ago. But isn’t arresting Willie for weed like arresting Madonna for being a slut? Or arresting GW Bush for being an idiot? I’ve had several conversations with people over the weekend and the common thread has been, what’s the point? What is the DEA trying to tell us, that we can all sleep better because they were able to arrest a 77-year-old man who is doing something that millions do in the country everyDay and is no threat to anyone? And I’m not the only one who is finding this hard to swallow. Go TO the CNN story and then read the comments left by people at the bottom. For that matter go to any of the wire stories and read the comments — 99.9 percent of the people feel like this is a waste of taxpayers money.”
Putting Willie Nelson in jail for up to two years for personal consumption of marijuana is “Crazy”.
