The legendary 1973 concert film Ladies & Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones was recently released on DVD to rave reviews. Critics are declaring it perhaps the best documentary footage ever captured of The Stones in their Exile on Main Street/Let It Bleed live heyday. (The complications surrounding their 1972 underground doc Cocksucker Blues are a whole other story).
As diehard fans already know, at least half of Ladies & Gentlemen was filmed at concerts in Fort Worth – specifically, two shows at the Tarrant County Convention Center on June 24, 1972. The rest was shot at the Hoffeinz Pavillion in Houston. To get you in the mood for the DVD, here’s a chilled-out version of ”Beast of Burden” shot at a Fort Worth show in 1978. Mick is atypically subdued but in fine vocal form.
