The Texas Railroad Commission and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are two state agencies that monitor natural gas drilling and its impact on the environment.
The doggedness of both agencies is often questioned.
Critics accuse them of covering up problems and protecting the industry rather than cracking a whip.
Neither agency is scrutinized much, but once every dozen years the state’s Sunset Advisory Commission is charged with finding and eliminating government waste, duplication, and inefficiency.
A Sunset town hall meeting to discuss both agencies is set for 7 p.m. Monday ( Nov. 8 ) at the Sheraton Arlington, 1500 Convention Center Road, in Arlington near the Ballpark.
Panelists include Sen. John Carona, Rep. Lon Burnam, and former TCEQ commissioner Larry Soward.
