Flower Mound city councilman Tom Hayden had an interesting quote prior to last night’s vote to put a moratorium on gas drilling: “We have a valuable asset that’s underneath our town. We have a more valuable asset that sits above our town — and that is Flower Mound, Texas.”

In Fort Worth, the city council rejects moratoriums and stacks the city’s task forces with industry influences to ensure there’s no stopping the drilling.

And the city’s mayor, who twists arms right and left to ensure the drillers are protected, refuses to abstain from voting on gas issues — even though his huge annual income is directly tied to the gas industry.

Funny how that works.
