Preservation is the Art of the City is an art show and sale whose proceeds benefit preservation programs at Historic Fort Worth, a nonprofit agency devoted to preserving local historic sites such as Thistle Hill and the McFarland House. Work has been donated by many local heavy hitters, including Daniel Blagg, Dennis Blagg, Jim Malone, Billy Hassell, Carol Ivey, Nancy Lamb, and Ann Ekstrom. The show will hang at Fort Worth Community Arts Center until Sat., Sept. 26.

At 7 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 24, the organization will present its 2009 Preservation Awards (awarded to individuals or groups who restore, maintain, and promote historic properties) and also hold a membership meeting and present a lecture by guest speaker Charles A. Birnbaum, founder and president of the Cultural Landscape Foundation.
