Got an un-mastered copy of Stella Rose’s new album (eight tracks, as-yet untitled). It’s badass: heavy, melodic, and a little trippy. (Think: My Bloody Valentine, Bush, Queens of the Stone Age.) I’m sure HearSay will tell you more about it next week. Anyway, you might be able to hear some new SR stuff tonight (Friday), when the trio plays The Moon (2911 W. Berry St., by TCU, 817-926-9600) along with Austin’s Sunglasses & Mushrooms and former Darth Vato frontman Kerry Dean. Upside: music. Downside: an hour wait in line at the bar.
And tomorrow night (Saturday) at The Moon, there’ll be Eaton Lake Tonics and Matthew Gray of Matthew and the Arrogant Sea. Upside: superb experimental pop. Downside: beards.
One of grooviest lineups I’ve seen in a while is tonight’s at Lola’s Saloon-Sixth (2736 W. 6th St., in the West 7th corridor, 817-877-0666). On tap are funksters Get Well, nu-disco purveyors and subjects of a recent Music section feature Shuttle, and Fort Worth’s answer to Rev. Al pre-reverend-ness, Keite Young. Tix are $6 over 21, $9 for underagers.
