Angelo’s Bar-B-Que was recently named one of the top 10 barbecue joints in the country by Playboy.com. Of the 51-year-old institution at 2533 White Settlement Road on the near West Side, the legendary magazine says that co-owners Skeet George and son Jason George are “still pouring frosty mugs of Bud and turning out perfect brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken, and smoked turkey breast for a loyal following of locals, visiting barbecue fiends, and celebrities such as Denzel Washington, Bobby Flay, and Waylon Jennings. Even Paris Hilton showed up to sample their goods (insert your own joke here).”
Barbecue restaurants, the brief article continues, may come and go, but “Angelo’s still remains the gold standard in the northern part of the state, if not the entire country.”
The only other Texas joint named was Smitty’s Market in Lockhart. Congrats, Angelo’s.
