That harbinger of spring known as the trout lily – a cute wildflower with perky petals – begins beckoning nature lovers about this time each year.
Poetic environmentalist Don Young describes the wildflowers as “golden-throated white trumpets” hanging from “curvy stems nestled inside mottled leaves that resemble speckled trout.”
Sounds like a friendly little fellow.
The annual Trout Lily Walk is at 1 p.m. Sunday at Tandy Hills Natural Area, with Jim Varnum serving as the all-knowing tour guide.
The tour is free and the weather forecast looks fine.
